Amendment 171

"We strongly oppose the European Parliament’s Amendment 171, which would unnecessarily restrict the language plant-based companies can use to describe their products.

Existing legislation already requires plant-based companies to clarify on their labels that their products are not dairy. The new rules would go much further by prohibiting words and phrases like “alternative to,” “does not contain,” and even “creamy” on the packaging. Amendment 171 could even result in bans on plant-based food packaging that resembles dairy packaging such as the common milk carton.

This censorship overreach would cause unnecessary confusion for consumers who are seeking, in greater numbers, plant-based options for their personal health and that of the planet. Please join us in signing the petition to reject Amendment 171."
